5 words (Oh my god, a meme!) [10 Jul 2009|02:50pm]
I couldn't help it - I do my best to avoid memes but I was simply too curious about what www.livejournal.com/~toob would choose for five words, so now I've got to pay for it by actually writing something in my journal for a change.

If you're not familiar with the meme, you ask someone for five words they would use to describe you, and then you have to post those words in your LJ and explain what they mean to you. If you ask, I'll try and give five words of my own.

Spines [08 Apr 2009|07:47pm]
I am breaking one of my own rules and posting something on LJ which should probably really be said individually to the people I know -- just because I'm getting tired of texting the same thing over and over again on my phone.

I screwed up my back pretty good, although I have no clue how. I didn't move a single fricking heavy thing during my move, either. After being laid out for a week or so in all kinds of pain I'd rather not think about, I ended up getting an MRI and some X-rays. It turns out I have not one but two herniated discs. The pain has turned to numbness and weakness in my left leg/foot provided that I don't move around too much. Not having motor control of my own body is pretty freaky but it's better than the ow.

I am gradually improving and being able to walk/sit more, etc, so I'm feeling optimistic. Right now I have oral steroids for the next two weeks or so (a certain otter turned dragon is SO JEALOUS I'm sure, except they aren't -that- kind of steroids) and if that doesn't work, I then get cortisol shots in my spine, and if that doesn't work there's surgery.

So right now it's hurryup and wait.

In the meantime I'm told that a primary side effect of the prednisone is irritability, so if I'm a bitch over the next couple of weeks you know why.

If you read nothing else today, read this.. [21 May 2007|01:24pm]
This cannot be ignored. The President has basically passed a bill declaring himself dictator in event of a 'catastrophic emergency.'

If I am somehow misunderstanding the implications of this, please correct me.

The rare post [15 May 2007|12:49pm]
Yeah, so Falwell is dead. I've heard a lot of celebrating from people.

Personally? I'm disappointed in anyone who'd take pleasure in another man's death. Somebody loved that man. I'm sure he had friends, family, etc who are mourning his passing.

A person I don't like is still a person. To celebrate the death of a man who espoused hate is to allow yourself to be dragged down with him.

Chin up, people.

Glass houses [28 Jun 2006|09:00am]
"We plan to eliminate the state of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian state. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion. We Palestinians will take over everything, including all of Jerusalem." Yasser Arafat, former Palestinian leader.

"The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more." Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel - August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000.

"The failed attempt to achieve peace made us realize that the only way to solve the Palestinian problem in a just and comprehensive manner is to implement the PLO's covenant... meaning a return to the armed struggle, which is the only language the Israelis understand." Ruhi Fatuh, Secretary General of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Al-Ayyam, 12 June 1998. Translation courtesy of Middle East Media and Research Institute - MEMRI.

"The Palestinians" would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." Yitzhak Shamir, Isreali Prime Minister in a speech to Jewish settlers. Reported by New York Times April 1, 1988.

"We will turn the territories of the [Palestinian] Autonomy into [the Israelis'] graveyard. This will be the beginning of the end and a regression to a state of overall explosion, for which Israel will be held responsible, as it is responsible for the failure of the peace process today." Chief Palestinian negotiator Sa'eb Ariqat. Al-Manar, 8 June 1998. Translation courtesy of MEMRI.

"When we have settled the land, all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle." Raphael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces. New York Times, 14 April 1983.

"I come bearing an olive branch in one hand, and the freedom fighter's gun in the other. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand." Yasser Arafat, former Palestinian leader.

"How can we return the occupied territories? There is nobody to return them to." Golda Maier, Israeli Prime Minister. March 8, 1969.

"If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti - Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?" David Ben Gurion, First Prime Minister of Israel.

"We must always remember that our enemy is the Israeli occupation, and it is incumbent upon us to continue to struggle against it through the blessed intifada... Only the intifada can carry our nation to a more advanced stage." Farouk Qaddumi, head of the P.L.O.'s Political Department. Ha'aretz, 16 December 1994.

"Everybody has to move, run and grab as many hilltops as they can to enlarge the settlements because everything we take now will stay ours... Everything we don't grab will go to them." Ariel Sharon, Israeli Foreign Minister, addressing a meeting of militants from the extreme right-wing Tsomet Party, Agence France Presse, November 15, 1998.

"I don't think that stones are violence. It is peaceful to throw stones." Marwan Barghouti, Secretary General of Fatah and a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. The Jerusalem Post, March 26, 1997.

"One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." Rabbi Yaacov Perrin. Feb. 27, 1994 [Source: N.Y. Times, Feb. 28, 1994, p. 1]

Kill all Republicans! [03 Oct 2004|08:15pm]
You know, it would be an understatement to say that I'm not much of a fan of George W. Bush. There is no question who I am voting for in the next election.

With that said, however, I'm getting really sick and tired of all the Republican bashing. To me at least partisan politics is idiotic, and I'd much rather see people spend their time and effort in constructive ways. Instead, I feel like to a lot of people it's considered politically aware merely to bash the other guy.

America is about dialogue and compromise between opposing viewpoints, not about insulting those people who disagree with you regardless of their views.

No Wow Beta for me.. [23 Sep 2004|09:19am]
They extended the WoW beta and I still didn't get a closed beta account. I've been on the waiting list since January. Oh well. Hopefully the game itself will be released soon.

Memeage! [23 Sep 2004|08:44am]
So far I have avoided every single meme. I like this one too much.

1. Think of a word you would use to describe me.
2. Go to Google Image Search and search for that word.
3. Select the picture you see as most fitting, and post it as a reply.
4. Post this meme in your journal, should you happen to feel like it

It's up to you if you want to reveal the word, or just offer the picture without comment :) Links are fine if the site doen't allow remote linking - lots of them don't.

Geekery [12 Sep 2004|09:06pm]
World of Warcraft is the best beta product I've ever seen. If I could buy it right now, I would. It managed to addict myself and two of my roommates over the course of three days. We only had the one beta account to share between the three of us, but my boyfriend stayed up till 3:30am last night, and Whitefire actually did not sleep at all just so that he would get a chance to play the game more after my boyfriend went to bed.

MMORPGs are sort of like my version of reality TV. I know it's horrible for me but I just can't stop playing them sometimes -- even if within about six months I tend to get sick of them.

It's only for three days, but I got into the Worlds of Warcraft stresstest beta.

Sometimes the smallest things excite me the most. Take the previous sentence in a different context and it says something that sounds pretty damn wrong.

Sleep [03 Sep 2004|06:57am]
I am one of those people who loves to sleep. It's sort of funny, since I don't remember it much, and it always seems to go by so quickly, but it's still one of my favorite things. I can't sleep unless I let everything that is bothering me go, so it's pretty much a guarantee that when I wake up I'll be calm and relaxed. I think that's why I like it so. Not thinking is hard for me.

Before, I used to never get enough sleep, because I had sleep apnea and I kept on mildly asyphxiating myself in the middle of the night. I like mild asphyxiation too, but apparently not when it interferes with sleeping. Guess I have to have my priorities in life.

Then I got a darth vader mask, this perversion of a vacuum cleaner that forces air into my nose and stops my air passages from closing up at night and waking me up. It allowed me to keep my precious sleep. Finally all the sleep I want.

Unfortunately it seems it's true that if I get what I really want, I'm not always sure what to do with it. Now I get nice solid sleep, but after about six hours I inevitably wake up, feeling all energized and exhausted at the same time. I'm not really tired during the day, so perhaps I'm getting enough sleep after all, but I just can't seem to rest any longer than that.

At least I'm not insomniac anymore.

LJmeme! [02 Sep 2004|07:59am]
I just got this wonderful email from the LJmeme livejournal crush stuff. They're offering a pay service now that will allow you to find out who has a crush on you, or even what crushes any given user has.

What I find really funny, though, is that if you gave them this information and you want it private, they want you to pay them for that, too! Mmm, advertising based blackmail. I love it!

This may harass you to go through their little 'get a free membership for a day' ad bullshit, but I'd really recommend reading this in it's entirety.

It's the best thing I've encountered in a while.

Sometimes it's hard not to laugh in shock and amazement at the utter infinity of things. Nothing is ever entirely alike, or entirely different.
I know so many people who are often sad, and I wish I could show them how I see the world instead.
